DeLorean DMC-12 x 2JZ-GTE

The DeLorean DMC-12 was no better than a hunk of stainless steel from the factory. It came with a 2.8 liter V6 that produced a measly 130 hp (170 hp for the Euro version) which was good enough to propel the car from 0 to 60 mph in about 10 seconds which is about the same as a Toyota Prius.

This particular example from Florida (WOOT!) is no turtle. Eddie has swapped a 2JZ-GTE into his DeLorean. To make matters more impressive, he did most of the work himself from his garage. There is no exact horsepower figures, but the owner is aiming for around 400 whp. That is plenty enough for the car that now weights roughly 3,000 lbs after the swap. For comparison, a E36 M3 is heavier at about 3,200 lbs with only 240 hp at the crank. For more details and pictures, check out Eddie’s thread on Supraforums.

You know what Eddie did? He brought the future back! If his tune works well, then achieving that 88mph will be all but a cakewalk. Hopefully, at least. Now where's that flux capacitor? Yeah, drivers find the original model to be less than satisfactory, but its eccentric looks and its status symbol nature pretty much make up for it!

how much fabrication did you do to mount the transmission and the engine? did you do any custom suspension setup? this is amazing
